The African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (ANDI) was launched during the first stakeholders meeting held at Abuja (October 2008, http://meeting.tropika.net/andi/). During that meeting, over 200 participants from 21 countries, endorsed the ANDI concept of an African-led network supporting product R&D innovation and capacity and infrastructure development in the region.

The 2nd ANDI Stakeholders meeting (held at the South African Medical Research Council (MRC) in Cape Town) marks another key milestone for ANDI. The ANDI Task Force will present its report and the proposed ANDI strategy and business plan with stakeholders including African institutions and researchers; ministries of health, science & technology; science academies; policy makers; donor agencies; health product manufacturers; NGOs; international organizations; Africans in the diaspora and anyone interested in supporting R&D in Africa. The strategic business plan is a critical document that defines the roadmap for ANDI. Over 100 scientific presentations (oral and poster) on a wide range of topics, will demonstrate the level of R&D innovation and capabilities in the African continent. Apart from plenary sessions with prominent speakers, there will also be parallel “Bright Ideas” sessions in which researchers have been invited to participate.

We hope that you find the coverage of these deliberations informative and we look forward to your continued support and active participation as ANDI moves towards the implementation phase of the strategic business plan. For additional information please visit http://andi.tropika.net/
